Tiny Breed Canine Training
Why dog lovers possess this preconceived notion that small breed puppies are more hard to educate than medium sized or large breed dogs, I will never be able to figure out. Housebreaking a puppy, despite its size should not pose a problem.Small dog training, is no different from training a pup of any other size. Whereas training any pup will have its peculiarities, based on its breed, practically all other facets remain identical, and the strategy to training the puppy should not be different, irrespective its size.
Never the less, I will grant an allowance here, and admit that small dog training may present complications in two arenas, (1) Aggression and (2) Puppy crate training. Nevertheless, this is not because the size of the dog breed is small, but in every instance, because of the owner.
If a small breed puppy dog is aggressive and cannot be disciplined, or if a tiny breed pup cannot be crate trained or poses challenges in being toilet trained, it is the owner who has not knowingly contributed to this problem. Let us examine how and why.
Aggression.
Smallish dogs are liked because they are adorable, they are like playthings. Owners delight in having their puppy sit on their laps. This particular indulgence is where the trouble begins. The natural aggressive character of the dog, is to declare ownership over its sector, its food, even its trainer; all puppies desire to be the alpha dog.
It is the aggressive streak in the dog that causes it to place itself on the lap of its owner, especially when there are lots of humans seated in the room.
This is a clear act of aggression. Instead of chastising and checking the animal, every owner with the exception of none, would fondle the pooch, despite the fact it jumped on to their lap without being called, fostering the aggressive streak in the dog. As a result the owner has given into the dog's instinct to be the alpha dog.
Growling and getting mad at a a larger size dog is another clear act of violence. To the owner, and even the people nearby, this is regarded as cute, because one dog is small while the other is big. Most owners shower affection on the pooch instead of chastising it, when it displays this aggression with a larger dog.
These are but good examples as to why small pet dogs are aggressive, and definitely not because small dog training is very difficult.
Crate Training
Owners choose to haul their small pups around where ever they are, even when they are at home and that makes it plain difficult to house break them
It comes natural to the owners of smallish breed dogs to cart the animal to the designated place where the pooch should go to the toilet and then lug it back into the house.
It is this pattern of carrying the dog to its toilet place that is the cause of all roadblocks. In addition, because the pup is as a rule carried around so much it has no way of it telling or notifying the owner that it has to go to the bathroom.
Small dog training begins with treating the dog as any other medium sized or larger sized dog. They have to be taken to their toilet area on a leash. If owners cease carrying their small breed dogs they would have no troubles in training them.
Dog crate training, is the most important part of pup training, and so it must be, even in Small Dog Training.
