A Purchasing Agent Drinks Carelessly, Gets Inspired To Get Treatment For Depression And Alcoholism, And Improves His Life
Ralph started drinking excessively when he was in the seventh grade. Fortunately for him, although he drank hazardously when he was an adolescent and a young adult, when he got beyond the age of thirty he almost always drank in moderation. After he completed his education he eventually got a job at a local food processing plant where he worked his way up from stock person, to office assistant, to purchasing assistant, to purchasing agent. Unlike his other positions, as the purchasing manager he routinely took potential vendors and existing vendors to lunch and to a variety of sporting events.
Though it was not written in concrete, meeting with existing vendors and potential vendors repeatedly involved situations in which alcohol was present. In actual fact, over the past two years, Ralph had begun to substantially increase his work related and his social drinking. This has led to quite a predicament. Namely, the more successful he became as a purchasing agent, the more heavily he began to drink.
Indeed, it did not take very long before Ralph's hazardous drinking started to affect the money in his savings account, his work efficiency, his health, his relationships, and his mental health. At one point, Ralph, in truth, began to get concerned about his excessive and careless drinking and questioned whether his alcohol related issues were alcoholism signs. What is more, his increasing bouts of depression also made him question if he was becoming an alcohol dependent person. In short, Ralph obviously needed to learn more about the facts about alcohol abuse and the signs of alcoholism.
So Ralph used his common sense, called his family doctor, and scheduled an appointment for a physical examination. The next week when he saw his doctor, Ralph regrettably discovered that he was addicted to alcohol. His health care practitioner informed Ralph that he needed to get alcohol detox and alcohol treatment for his alcohol dependency and that he also needed to get a medical evaluation regarding his depression. In short, Ralph needed treatment for his alcoholism and depression.
His doctor suggested to Ralph that he request a 45 day leave of absence from work and get enrolled in a quality in-patient alcohol rehabilitation program where he could also be treated for his depression. This is precisely what Ralph did. Fortunately after his treatment for alcoholism and for depression, he felt like a different person. Indeed, now that he was sober he almost never got depressed and he now knew how to more productively and efficiently manage his finances, his relationships, his job, and his health.
To no one's astonishment, the most difficult test Ralph met was at work. Simply put, he still took his existing vendors and potential vendors to lunch and to various sporting events, but after his alcohol treatment he managed to refrain from drinking while entertaining his clients.
Interestingly, Ralph also learned that none of his existing vendors or potential vendors thought any less of him because of his alcohol-free lifestyle. Instead, he found out that his existing vendors and potential vendors respected him for maintaining his convictions.
After Ralph went through alcohol rehab he found out that if he said "no" to drinking, all of the other significant parts of his life would be enhanced. Every once-in-a-while, it can be pointed out, Ralph missed drinking, but the better work performance, health, finances, and the better relationships he experienced more than made up for his craving for alcohol.
