A Married Couple Becomes Apprehensive About Their Irresponsible And Abusive Drinking And Questions Whether They Display Any Signs Of Alcoholism
Angie and Lenny have been married for seven years. They wanted to experience some excitement and fun before they made up their minds to have a family and so they intentionally established an exceptionally exciting social life. The main problem, it needs to be underscored, is that very nearly everything they do for excitement includes drinking. For instance, all of the parties with friends, sporting events, dinner engagements, happy hours, and family get-togethers they frequent are associated with drinking.
If they were responsible drinkers this wouldn't be such a major problem. Because they drink rather excessively, nevertheless, they are starting to take note of some clear-cut alcohol-related issues in their lives.
As an illustration, just five days ago Lenny got a third DWI and has been shirking responsibilities at work due to alcohol-related health problems. Furthermore, Lenny's last two performance reviews at his place of employment have been less than creditable and he has started to fail to recall what he says or does when he drinks. Finally, Lenny has been experiencing sleep-related problems and his family has begun to exhibit apprehension about his drinking difficulties.
In a similar way, Angie has been feeling down in the dumps with life in general and to cope with these feelings, she has been drinking more than any time in the past three years. In addition, Angie has been experiencing more than a few painful migraines and having awful hangovers due to her drinking. As a final point, Angie has been feeling notably less energetic when she awakens, she has been getting to work late at least every other day, and she has been getting some unkind criticism from her coworkers, relatives, friends, and family members about her abusive and hazardous drinking.
One Friday evening while watching the television, Angie and Lenny stumbled upon an attention-grabbing program about alcohol facts and alcoholism facts in general and about alcoholism signs in particular. This TV documentary was a real surprise to Lenny and Angie because numerous alcohol facts that were featured looked like they were directly correlated with some of the drinking problems Angie and Lenny had been going through.
With thoughts of the TV documentary still imprinted in her mind, Angie asked Lenny if some of the alcohol addiction signs they have been exhibiting could be an indication that they are dependent on alcohol or maybe becoming dependent on alcohol. Lenny didn't know the answer to Angie's inquiry and so he suggested that they schedule an appointment with one of the physicians at the nearby alcohol treatment facility to find out more about the severity of their drinking circumstances.
Paradoxically, even though their drinking circumstances hadn't yet changed, it was noticeable that Lenny and Angie were at least dealing with their drinking issues, they were ready to find out more about their drinking circumstances, and they were interested in finding out how they could substantially cut back on or do away with the drinking-related problems that had started to intensify.
When Angie and Lenny went to bed that night, they arrived at a decision that the next afternoon, Lenny would call and schedule an appointment for both of them at the substance abuse rehabilitation center located downtown. After they made a promise to one another that they would do whatever it takes to defeat the drinking difficulties that had developed in their lives, they truly had the most peaceful night's sleep they could recollect in the last three weeks.
